Sustainable Design is the German Werkbund


Curated by Imke Volkers, with the collaboration of XYZ space, the shows “Sustainable Design is”Aims to tell a new perspective through one of the most important events in the history of design Modern: the German Werkbund. The exhibition is open at the Palazzo Giacomelli Treviso. The inauguration took place Thursday, December 2 and the exhibition will be open until 15 December, Monday to Saturday. The exhibition “Sustainable Design is” tells the story of the Deutscher Werkbund movement as a precursor of thought applied to sustainable industrial production.

The association was born in Germany in 1907 and brought together artists, industrialists and politicians of the time, had a significant impact in developing the design of the Twentieth Century.

Sustainability and proper industrial production were the two key concepts underlying his approach to design from the beginning. The exhibition is a collaboration with the Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge in Berlin.

The exhibition is part of the event Sustain / Ability with the intent to arouse the conscience through sensitive design in key greenTo restrict the ability of future generations have a livable environment.

Promoted from Treviso Design, a launching pad for the creative industry, The festival will be oriented towards eco-design, and constitute a starting point for sustainable businesses.

Imke Volkers is curator of the Museum der Dinge in Berlin, a member of the jury of Recycling Design Prize 2010, held conferences in major museums and institutions on the history of German design.
