Maarten Baas carried out for Amnesty International in a chair tribute to Liu Xiaobo , a writer and activist, winner of China, the recall, the last Nobel prize for peace, now detained in the prisons of his country on charges of “inciting subversion”.
Poetic rhetoric, the “Empty Chair” reminds us, as if it were a photo, the empty chair and non-collection of award-Xiaobo was already serving his sentence to eleven years on the day of the awards in Stockholm but also becomes a metaphor, because the back-staircase that climbs up the sky, a freedom of thought which looks beyond the fear and repression, and aspires to a higher dimension of consciousness and pure.
Empty Chair will be officially launched in Amsterdam next Saturday to celebrate the 50th aninversario of the founding of Amnesty International.
