LCW, offset by living

LCW is the name of a chair made by the brothers for Vitra Eames. Also known as the chair offset by living Eames’, is a chair designed by what is considered the group of employees to design the most influential of the twentieth century. LCW is rightly regarded as a true innovation in design because it was designed using technology to shape the wood which the Eames developed prior to and during their collaboration with Vitra: they started to produce plywood splints and models with a honed curves to get complicated.

The Eames had the goal of producing chairs with comfortable silhouettes at a low cost of production, focusing on seat and back designed as two elements in isolation to be filled or not with Cushions. Thus, these two elements are joined by a plywood lumbar support, all supported by legs also made of plywood.

The result is a comfortable chair, looking extremely elegant and contemporary.

The fact is exceptional in having “cushioned” by the back grommets flettesse allowing the backrest to the weight of a user sitting. This is the first example of a technology that will then result in large Vitra and not only to allow for seating comfort for everyone.

LCW, boasting wood laminate seat and back in print, is now available once again in cloth, leather or skin as well as in pony, Ie the way in which it was launched in 1946.
