Alessi mezuzah - contemporary Jewish ritual

The young Israeli designer Dror Benshetrit designed socontemporary for Alessi a mezuzahOr an object belonging to the Jewish ritual which consists of a container within which is contained the parchment on which they are drawn some passages of the Torah. In Jewish tradition, the mezuzah is affixed on the doorposts of the houses inside. Connection is his name and was born of the collaboration with the Jewish Museum in New York where it was presented on 8 November.

“With this project, which aims to represent the union and membership, I wanted to join together two shapes that represent for me the dialogue between past and present, tradition and religion, ritual and custom. I tried to stress those elements into a single unit, rather than separately, embracing the harmony that exists between them. The letter “shin”, which is usually found in front of the mezuzah was placed here in texture, almost an invitation to discover“, says the young designer, who for this project was inspired by a seal in a bronze casting of the permanent collection of the museum and covers the period between the fourth and seventh centuries AD
